Health is not just the absence of disease, but overall physical, mental, social, emotional, and community well-being. Investment in prevention, early intervention, and health coverage and access to care for children, caregivers, and families, will promote optimal health and development and mitigate the need for more intensive and costly interventions in the short- and long-term.
The early years of life present a crucial opportunity to support optimal development that will have lifelong consequences, as a child’s brain develops most rapidly during the early years. Interventions that help ensure healthy development and reduce childhood adversity in the early years have been shown to contribute to lifelong improvements in physical and mental health.
