New York State Budget

State budget analysis and advocacy is a cornerstone of Schuyler Center’s work. We understand that no matter how visionary the policy or initiative, it will fail without adequate investment.

Schuyler Center develops and presents a State of New York’s Children data book and briefing, sharing data demonstrating the challenges facing New York’s children and their families, and highlighting budget and policy goals. Schuyler Center also produces a First Look at the Executive Budget and a Last Look at the enacted budget. These publications consider the impacts of the State budget on children, families, and marginalized New Yorkers.

Schuyler Center uses these and other communications to shine light on otherwise overlooked budget decisions affecting groups underrepresented at decision-making tables, and to educate and rally allies around the state to hold lawmakers to account.

Policy Focus

In the context of the New York State budget, Schuyler Center informs and educates by:

  • Gathering, publishing, and presenting data that identifies and helps demonstrate the need for investment in programs to improve the well-being of children, families and marginalized New Yorkers.
  • Closely monitoring the Governor’s executive budget proposal, the responsive Assembly and Senate budget proposals and the final enacted budget; analyzing and educating government, community partners and the public about budget proposals and how they will impact children, families and marginalized New Yorkers and advocate for investments that will strengthen and support those New Yorkers.
  • Educating government and community partners, and the public through publications, presentations, testimony and earned media about the likely impacts of budget proposals on New York children, families and marginalized New Yorkers.
