The 2022 New York State Legislative Session concluded on June 2. Schuyler Center’s End-of-Session Wrap Up is an assessment of how our spring policy priorities for improving the health and well-being of New Yorkers fared.

Among the wins was the passage of several important child care bills – wins that, if signed into law by the Governor, will eliminate eligibility rules that serve as unnecessary obstacles to accessing child care, and will improve health and safety.

Among the missed opportunities was legislation expanding access to child care subsidies to undocumented children; creating an ombudsman program for people with developmental disabilities; affording continuous Medicaid coverage for children ages 0-3; and increasing the child welfare housing subsidy– none of which passed this session.

As we head into the summer, Schuyler Center’s team is redoubling efforts to advance policy priorities that did not get adopted this year. These policies remain integral to our mission of creating a more just and equitable New York.
