The Schuyler Center is at the center of efforts to improve policy and practice for screening, referral, and treatment for parental mental health in New York because untreated depression or other mental health disorders can take a toll on the health and well-being of parents and children. Parents experiencing mental health crisis often struggle to care for themselves or their families while children may suffer from developmental delays or health problems.
Developing policies around maternal mental health can be challenging because the issue sits at the uneasy intersection of health, mental health, child health, child welfare, and child care and early education. Schuyler Center’s experience across systems provides us the expertise and relationships to get the work done. We coordinate and promote collaboration to ensure that health and mental health systems in both the public and private sectors have the information and resources they need to work together to help families receive timely mental health care.
